![]() Coming off a satisfying 1996-97 campaign in Ottawa, his third team in as many years, York finally found a home when the Sens inked him to a two-year deal on July of 1997. The now defensive-first rearguard played 73 games in 1997-98, recording 16 points. York began his NHL career in Detroit on a blue line corps which had no room for young defencemen. He later gained valuable experience and regular ice time in 1995-96 suiting up for the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. He contributed 24 points in 79 regular season games--a career high--and finally demonstrated that he belonged in the big leagues. Traded to Ottawa just days before the 1996-97 season, York got off to a rough start, but he slowly emerged after being thrust into a more prominent role when defencemen Sean Hill and Stanislav Neckar went down with season-ending knee injuries. After being drafted 129th overall by the Red Wings, York went back and forth between the AHL and the NHL, and racked up some impressive statistics along the way. He was named to the AHL's first all-star team with Adirondack in 1994 and won the Calder Cup a year later with the same team. York has played three OHL seasons with Windsor and Kitchener.
