    Wendel Clark clears waivers

CHICAGO (CP) -- Wendel Clark's NHL future is in doubt after no team claimed him off waivers Tuesday from the Chicago Blackhawks.

The 15-year veteran fell out of favour quickly by scoring only two goals in 13 games. He was a healthy scratch during the weekend even though Chicago gave him a $1.4-million contract last summer when he was a free agent.

"He's not working hard enough and he's not scoring goals, so I'm not going to hurt the club anymore," general manager Bob Murray told the Chicago Tribune in explaining his decision to make Clark available to other teams until noon Tuesday on the waiver wire.

"Right now, he doesn't deserve to play in our lineup."

With Clark having cleared waivers, the Blackhawks could give him another chance to play or try to work a deal with a minor-league team to take him.

Clark, 33, the No. 1 pick in the 1985 draft by Toronto and a former Maple Leafs captain, has 328 goals in 773 NHL games.
