Alex Tanguay living in Roy's basement

DENVER (CP) -- Avalanche rookie Alex Tanguay is earning $975,000 US, but he's living in a basement.

Well, it's not any musty den. It's teammate Patrick Roy's basement that Tanguay is renting.

"I've got everything I need," the 20-year-old forward from Ste-Justine, Que., told the Denver Post. "I've a room, a shower, a living room. It's perfect. The kids are a lot of fun to play with. Couldn't ask for anything better."

Roy and his wife, Michele, have three children. Tanguay plays ball hockey in their garage with the two boys.

The Roys don't charge him rent, but there are rules to obey.

"No girls in the house," Roy explained. "There's two girls in the house already, and it's got to stay that way."

Added Roy: "I don't try to be a daddy to him. He has his own dad. I just try to be like a big brother. I'm not going to start babysitting him."
