    Sakic misses second straight game

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) -- Colorado center Joe Sakic missed his second straight game with a rib-cartilage strain Tuesday night when the Avalanche played the Vancouver Canucks.

Sakic stayed home from the Avalanche's two-game road trip against Northwest-Division rivals Vancouver and Edmonton to recuperate from the injury, which has forced him to miss seven of nine games.

Prior to the trip, Sakic said he wasn't close to being 100 percent, and that he would need at least a week to see how the injury heals. In 17 games this season, he has six goals and 20 points.

While Sakic is still out, Avalanche forward Chris Dingman was cleared to return to action after missing six games with a shoulder injury.

The Canucks, with five regulars out of the lineup including captain Mark Messier (right knee) and Alexander Mogilny (back), called up center Harold Druken and defenseman Ryan Bonni from Syracuse of the American Hockey League on Tuesday.
