Friday, October 2, 1998 Hartley wins respect of Avs playersThere was some trepidation in Denver that Hawkesbury, Ont., native Bob Hartley, who hadn't coached in the NHL and who never played in the league, might encounter problems winning the respect of his players in his new job as head coach of the Avalanche. But Hartley exudes positive energy and has made an immediate impression with the veterens he needed to win over. "I don't feel like I have to apologize for anything, for not playing or anything like that," Hartley told the Denver Post. "I don't want to mention any names, but there have been a few great players who kind of crashed a bit when they tried to coach. "I just do the things that made me successful, here or anyplace else." Captain Joe Sakic says Hartley "communicates things real well." "It's a tough job, being a coach in this league, but I think Bob is going to do very well," said defenceman Sylvain Lefebvre.
