Roy feels good in first game since surgery

DENVER (CP) -- Patrick Roy was surprised by how well he played Friday night.
The Avalanche goalie, who underwent minor hip surgery Sept. 9, played for the first time in the pre-season and didn't look bad in his 40-minute debut. He faced 24 shots and made 22 saves before Marc Denis, as planned, replaced him in the third period.
"I felt pretty good and I felt pretty comfortable and that's what I was hoping," Roy told the Rocky Mountain News. "I was anxious to play. After 40 minutes, I could've kept going but that was the decision before the game. I'll see how I feel in the morning. I feel good right now. I'm very pleased by what happened out there tonight.
"I was a little surprised. I thought I would be a little rusty. I was moving quite well. It's only been four times that I've skated with the team. Now I look forward to the game Monday night. The objective was to play two periods and a full game Monday against Anaheim."
