Wednesday, November 24, 1999 Savage returns homeMONTREAL (CP) -- Canadiens forward Brian Savage is back home to begin his recuperation from the neck injury he suffered in a game in Los Angeles.Savage has two fractured vertebrae as well as ligament damage in his spinal column as the result of his collision with Kings forward Ian Laperriere last Saturday night. He can walk but has to wear a neck brace. He flew home Tuesday night. "He's starting to realize he won't be playing for a long time," teammate Scott Thornton told the Montreal Gazette. "That's always hard to take. "He's going through a lot of discomfort but, as hard as it is, you've got to think about the positives at a time like this. All of the medical people connected with the case have said it could have been a lot worse. I'm sure he spent a terrible few days in Los Angeles, but he's going home to his wife, to people who love him."
