Tuesday, November 2, 1999 Koivu sprains shoulder in practiceMONTREAL (CP) -- Montreal Canadiens captain Saku Koivu sprained his left shoulder during practice this morning and will be out for the Habs' lineup for one to two weeks.Koivu, the centre on Montreal's top line, felt a sharp pain in the shoulder when he reached for the puck while the Habs were working on their power play, a club spokesman said. He was examined later by a team doctor and did not accompany his teammates to New Jersey, where the Canadiens meet the Devils on Wednesday night. Koivu will also miss a game Thursday night on Long Island and Saturday night in Ottawa. He may return for a game next Wednesday night in Pittsburgh. Another player not on the trip is defenceman Craig Rivet, who is suffering from a virus. Rivet had been scheduled to return Wednesday night from a fractured cheekbone suffered Oct. 8 in Calgary. Losing Koivu was a setback for the injury-plagued Canadiens, who believed they would be able to start balancing their lines when wingers Dainius Zubrus and Shayne Corson returned to the lineup this week. Winger Benoit Brunet (sore back), and defencemen Vladimir Malakhov (knee surgery) and Patrice Brisebois (back surgery) remain out with long-term injuries.
