Koivu says shoulder not that bad

MONTREAL (CP) -- Saku Koivu says the good part about his shoulder injury is that it's not as bad as he first feared.

"It's frustrating but it could have been a lot worse," Koivu said Wednesday of a freak accident in practice the day before that left him with a sprained left shoulder.

"I'll be out two weeks at the most and miss three or four games. I'll see the doctors again on Monday and I hope to play next Wednesday in Pittsburgh."

Koivu had just been named the Canadiens player of the month for October, when he had two goals and nine assists in 12 games and played some of his best hockey in recent years.

"We were practising the power-play," Koivu said of the injury. "I was about to shoot a one-timer when Craig Darby gave me a little shove.

"I fell the wrong way and all the weight was on my shoulder. I knew right away it was hurt. There was a sharp pain and I wasn't able to shoot."

Koivu, 24, who has missed 62 games in the last three seasons with injuries, was the 13th Canadiens player to fall injured this season.

The injury-wracked club went 3-8-1 in October and began a series of four games on the road Wednesday night in New Jersey.
