Wednesday, October 27, 1999 Sullivan would have been happy HabMONTREAL (CP) -- When Steve Sullivan was put on waivers by the Toronto Maple Leafs last week, there was speculation he would be grabbed by the injury-plagued Montreal Canadiens. The Habs never got the chance as the speedy centre was taken by the Chicago Blackhawks, who picked before Montreal. "Obviously, that would have been great," said Sullivan, a native of Timmins, Ont., who speaks French and whose parents are from Rouyn-Noranda, Que. "But I was so worried just about being picked up, I didn't care where it was. You never know. There's a 23-man roster now and a lot of teams are trying to unload guys making $900,000 or $1 million, not trying to add them on." Sullivan, who earns $825,000 US, is happy is Chicago, where he has been given the ice time he complained he wasn't getting in Toronto. The 'Hawks have him on a top scoring line with Tony Amonte and Wendel Clark. "It was tough leaving Toronto," said Sullivan. "But this is an opportunity to play more and try to put some numbers on the board. "But as much I knew the best thing was to leave Toronto, I didn't want to leave."
