Thursday, November 25, 1999 Phillips ready to answer the call
Senators defenceman Chris Phillips wouldn't think about missing tonight's game in Atlanta. The team is hurting with injuries, especially on the blue line with four players out of the lineup, including Igor Kravchuk and Sami Salo. Phillips is having problems with his right ankle, the same one that kept him out of 40 games last year, but is enduring pain to stay in the lineup. "It's still strong," said Phillips after practising with the team yesterday. "If it's still strong, you can play with a bit of pain." Phillips said the discomfort is caused by scar tissue from the previous injury pinching on nerves. Phillips stayed off the ice Monday and Tuesday, but returned for practice yesterday. "It's frustrating missing out on (practice)," he said. "It could always be worse. "I could be out like last year. I'm still able to play the games, but I certainly wish all this would just go away." HOSSA'S A GO: Ottawa RW Marian Hossa will be in the lineup tonight in Atlanta. Hossa, the team's leading goal-getter with 11, suffered a mild concussion Nov. 18 against San Jose and missed the Nov. 20 game in New Jersey. "I wanted to be safe and to take some days off," said Hossa, who practised Tuesday for the first time since the injury. LW Magnus Arvedson also will play tonight despite an aggravated groin injury.
