Boucher's agent unimpressed with Flyers offer to Puppa

PHILADELPHIA (CP) -- Tom Laidlaw, agent for Flyers goaltender Brian Boucher, said he isn't worried about an offer the team made veteran free-agent goalie Daren Puppa.

But after saying last week that contract talks with the Flyers were going nowhere, Laidlaw now is optimistic about a face-to-face negotiation Thursday in Philadelphia, scheduled to include general manager Bob Clarke, and chairman Ed Snider.

"There's a lot of room to get a deal done," Laidlaw told the Philadelphia Daily News. "For that to happen, of course, both sides will have to move on salary. I understand their position. ... Bob Clarke's got to do what's right for the team, and he can't go into the season with (Czech rookie) Roman Cechmanek as his goaltender."

Laidlaw said Puppa "should be well-rested," having not played since he was released by the Tampa Bay Lightning early last season.

Clarke and Snider also plan to meet Thursday or Friday with Lewis Gross, agent for Flyers winger John LeClair, to discuss a multiyear contract to replace the one-year, $7-million arbitration award LeClair received.
