Tuesday, November 9, 1999 Numminen likely to sign extensionPHOENIX (CP) -- The agent for defenceman Teppo Numminen says he expects to get a contract extension done with the Coyotes and that there's no reason to set any type of deadline for completing the deal."The good news is both sides appear willing to want to do a deal, and it's just a question of handling (the details)," Don Baizley told the Arizona Republic. "I've chatted with (general manager) Bobby Smith, we'll chat again, but I don't have any time line as to when something might get done. "I'm not going to want to talk a whole lot about it publicly because, in my experience, doing that on a deal such as this during the season can become a major distraction. But we'll keep talking with the Coyotes." Numminen's contract expires at the end of this season, at which point he would be eligible to test the market as an unrestricted free agent. By agreeing to stay with the Coyotes, though, he likely will command a salary greater than defensive partner Jyrki Lumme, who signed a four-year deal worth about $17 million and also is represented by Baizley.
