    Carney cashes in with Coyotes

     PHOENIX (CP) -- Keith Carney's four-year contract extension with the Phoenix Coyotes is worth $9.6 million US.
     The veteran defenceman, 29, is the Coyotes' Mr. Reliable.
     "It was an excellent opportunity to secure one of our core players for a long time," GM Bobby Smith told the Arizona Republic. "He is a guy who has played extremely well for us since coming to us from Chicago (on March 4, 1998). Keith's character and commitment to our game and team are very impressive. It helps solidify our defence for a long time."
