    Coyotes 8, MIGHTY DUCKS 2

    Coyotes cook Ducks in Anaheim

  • Summary

ANAHEIM, California (Ticker) -- One night after getting pounded by the St. Louis Blues, the Phoenix Coyotes took out their frustrations on the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim.

Jeremy Roenick and Keith Tkachuk each had a goal and assist and Greg Adams scored twice during a five-goal third period as the Coyotes embarrassed Anaheim, 8-2.

Bob Essensa stopped 27 shots for the Coyotes and moved ahead of Nikolai Khabibulin for the franchise lead with 127 wins.

Mike Sullivan put Phoenix on the board 5:28 into the first period. Tkachuk doubled the lead just under six minutes later when he took a pass from defenseman Jyrki Lumme on the right side and skated toward the slot before firing a low wrist shot past goaltender Guy Hebert.

Just over three minutes after Anaheim's Paul Kariya halved the deficit with a power-play goal, Roenick answered on the power play for a 3-1 advantage.

Dominic Roussel relieved Hebert to start the third period and stopped only 11 shots, allowing two goals to Adams and one apiece to Shane Doan, Trevor Letowski and defenseman Stanislav Neckar.

The eight goals were a season high for Phoenix and the most allowed by the Ducks this season.
