Monday, February 28, 2000CANUCKS 2, Coyotes 1Hendrickson, Potvin key Canucks victoryVANCOUVER (CP) -- Darby Hendrickson had a goal and an assist while goalie Felix Potvin made 28 saves as the Vancouver Canucks defeated the Phoenix Coyotes 2-1 Sunday night in the NHL. Todd Bertuzzi got the other goal for Vancouver while Deron Quint ruined Potvin's shutout bid with only two minutes remaining. Potvin, who had allowed eight goals in his previous two starts, foiled Shane Doan and Greg Adams on deflections in the first 40 minutes and got a pad on an Adams shot with the score 1-0 after a turnover in front of his net. Doan was beaten in the third period when he faced Potvin alone from 20 feet and Louie DeBrusk hit the post. The Canucks, with seven regulars injured, had a season-high four-game unbeaten streak ended Friday by the Los Angeles Kings. The Coyotes matched their season-high four-game winless streak with the loss. Bertuzzi opened the scoring at 1:36 of the second period with a hard-working solo effort that produced his sixth goal in eight games and 16th of the season. The rugged left-winger forced Phoenix defenceman Jyrki Lumme to turn the puck over in the corner, then outmuscled him to the front of the net. Bertuzzi controlled the puck with one hand on his stick and tucked it behind goaltender Sean Burke. Hendrickson, who chipped the puck out of the defensive zone to set up the first goal, scored his second in three games to make it 2-0 with 53 seconds remaining in the middle frame. He fought his way from behind the Coyotes' net and scored by scooping the puck toward the far post as he was being knocked to the ice. Notes: Beginning Tuesday in Los Angeles, the Canucks play eight games in 14 nights, only one opponent -- Anaheim -- is below .500 ... Coyote Shane Doan earned a $200,000 US bonus with his 20th goal last week. The bonus jumps to $300,000 US if he scores 25. Summary
