Thursday, November 4, 1999SHARKS 6, Coyotes 3Nolan, Friesen tame CoyotesSAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) -- Vincent Damphousse scored two goals, including the game-winner, as the San Jose Sharks defeated Phoenix 6-3 Wednesday night to extend their unbeaten streak to four games. Owen Nolan, Patrick Marleau and Ron Stern also scored for the Sharks, who have beaten the Coyotes four straight times. Travis Green, Mika Alatalo and Rick Tocchet scored for Phoenix, which had a three-game winning streak snapped. Sharks goaltender Steve Shields recorded his league-leading ninth victory of the season, stopping 37 shots. San Jose, tied with the Los Angeles Kings for first place in the Pacific Division at 21 points, is also tied for the most wins in the league with Toronto (10). The Sharks scored five goals on their first 13 shots. The Coyotes outshot San Jose 40-20. Damphousse's second goal of the game, at 10:37 of the second period, put the Sharks ahead to stay. As Damphousse skated down the left side, Jeff Friesen led him with a perfect pass toward the slot. Damphousse then tipped it past Phoenix goaltender Mikhail Shtalenkov, who hasn't beaten the Sharks in five career appearances. Marleau's goal, at 14:42 of the second period, came after he took a pass from Alex Korolyuk from behind the net. Marleau was standing in the slot and one-timed it past Shtalenkov. Stern scored less than two minutes later. Green gave Phoenix a 1-0 lead with his 10th goal of the season at 13:24 of the first period. It was the first even-strength goal allowed by Shields in 133:24, spanning 2 1/2 games. Nolan tied the game less than a minute later with his 10th goal. Damphousse won a faceoff in the Coyotes' zone and Nolan one-timed it from the bottom of the left circle. After Alatalo gave Phoenix a 2-1 lead at 18:36, Damphousse tied it again just 23 seconds later. He was in front of the net and tipped in a pass from Nolan. Tocchet's goal came with 24 seconds left in the second period. Jeff Friesen added an empty-net goal with 1:24 remaining, his eighth goal of the season. Summary
