    Stars 6, COYOTES 4

    Stars storm Phoenix for win

  • Summary

PHOENIX (Ticker) -- In danger of falling below .500, the Dallas Stars stormed to life with five third-period goals, including two by Brett Hull, and rallied past the Phoenix Coyotes, 6-4.

The defending Stanley Cup champions had lost three straight and trailed 3-1 after two periods. But Hull and Jamie Wright scored 21 seconds apart in the opening moments of the third to tie it and Sergei Zubov and Hull tallied in a 93-second span late in the period to put Dallas in front.

Guy Carbonneau also tallied twice for Dallas, which improved to 9-4-2 in the last 15 meetings with the Coyotes.

Zubov forged a 4-4 tie with 3:31 remaining when he drifted down the slot, took a pass from Mike Keane and slid a shot under goaltender Mikhail Shtalenkov for his third goal.

Hull broke the deadlock on the power play, 45 seconds after Rick Tocchet took a controversial high-sticking penalty. Hull worked a give-and-go with Zubov, taking a return feed in the left faceoff circle and ripping a one-timer between Shtalenkov's pads for his sixth goal.

Carbonneau sealed the Stars' first win in two weeks with a 190-foot empty-net goal with two seconds to play.

Travis Green retained a share of the league lead with his 11th goal for Phoenix, which suffered its first loss in five home games this season.
