Healy comfortable as backup
TORONTO (CP) -- Glenn Healy's scheduled start against the Atlanta Thrashers on Wednesday night was only his third of the NHL season, but the veteran Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender does not gripe.
"As athletes, we all want to play but we all have to recognize our roles within the locker room," Healy said after the morning skate. "They are pre-determined by the coaching staff.
"If you're not comfortable with them, then you do what Steve Sullivan did. I obviously am comfortable with mine and I'm not going to do what Steve Sullivan did."
Sullivan complained about lack of playing time, was placed on waivers last week and picked up Saturday by the Chicago Blackhawks.
Healy, 37, will become an unrestricted free agent after his contract expires next summer. So, this might be his last season with the Leafs. But while Buffalo's Dominik Hasek has said this will be his last NHL fling, Healy chuckles at any comparison between his employment situation and that of Hasek.
"The only comparison would be that both of us wear goalie pads," he offered. "Dominik has made very clear what his future is going to be and I haven't.
"It's a totally different situation. Dominik has pre-determined his path. I'll cross that bridge when we come to it at the end of the year. I have a pretty good idea what's up."
