    Snow won't re-sign with Canucks

VANCOUVER (CP) -- If the Vancouver Canucks hold any hope of re-signing backup goalie Garth Snow, his agent declared Tuesday they can forget about it. Snow is not coming back.

"Brian Burke and Dave Nonis have treated him great but it's time to move on," agent Steve Mountain told the Vancouver Sun. "It's time to see if he can be a starter somewhere else."

Snow will become an unrestricted free agent on Saturday as the Canucks won't be picking up the option year on his contract for $1.9-million US.

He made $1.4 million US last season. Vancouver did offer Snow a new two-year deal worth $1 million a season but it was rejected.

Mountain said that Snow is intent on seeking a new opportunity after he was relegated to the No. 2 job behind Felix Potvin.

Snow will join Ron Tugnutt, Sean Burke, Glenn Healy and Craig Billington as unrestricted free-agent goalies.

Canucks general manager Brian Burke, meanwhile, discounted word out of New York that captain Mark Messier will almost certainly sign with the Rangers once he becomes an unrestricted free agent on Saturday.

"We haven't given up the ship on Mess at all. We've made a decision, which has been communicated to Mess, on what our interest is and we still hope to have him back," said Burke.
