    Police wrap up McSorley investigation

VANCOUVER (CP) -- Vancouver police have wrapped up their investigation into Marty McSorley's stick attack on Vancouver Canuck Donald Brashear.

It's now up to Crown counsel to decide if any criminal charges will be laid against the Boston Bruins defenceman.

Police have not made a recommendation on whether or not charges should be laid, said police spokeswoman Const. Anne Drennan.

"If they should pursue charges, we've left it to them to determine what level they would be interested in charging."

The most likely charges would be aggravated assault or assault with a weapon, Drennan added.

It took police just over a week to investigate the slash to Brashear witnessed by 20,000 fans at a Vancouver game late last month.

Television footage of the slash shows Brashear falling to the ice, his head bouncing on the hard surface as his helmet comes off. He was unconscious, convulsing and bleeding.

Brashear suffered a concussion and said at a news conference Monday he still suffers from headaches. Doctors have told him to remain inactive for at least two weeks.

Police did not talk to McSorley, who has been suspended by the NHL for the rest of the season.

The investigators reviewed videotape of the incident and interviewed Brashear.
