Thursday, May 11, 2000 Wild and Canucks to play exhibition in WinnipegWINNIPEG (CP) -- The Minnesota Wild and the Vancouver Canucks will play an exhibition game in Winnipeg this fall.In an attempt to showcase NHL hockey in Manitoba, the Wild and the Manitoba Moose of the International Hockey League have teamed up to host the game, which will be played Sept. 23 at the Winnipeg Arena. Tom Thompson, the director of amateur scouting for the Wild who lives in Winnipeg, is hoping the Wild will become Manitoba's favourite NHL team. It is a seven-hour drive from Winnipeg to St. Paul. "We used to go down for the Minnesota North Stars games and I know football fans still drive down to watch the Vikings' NFL games," said Thompson. "Everybody in our organization is excited about the team's future and I'm sure sports fans in Manitoba will be watching our progress."
