Canucks want to avoid Death Valley
VANCOUVER (CP) -- Canucks GM Brian Burke says meeting Dallas, Detroit or Colorado in the first round of playoffs "Death Valley".
Chances are, whoever meets them as the Nos. 6, 7 and 8 seeds, he says, will likely have a short playoff run.
That means a fierce run in the heavily talented Western Conference is in the making for the fourth playoff spot and home-ice advantage. Or, he adds, for the fifth spot, because No. 5 playing No. 4 in the first round is more palatable than yielding home ice to the Big 3.
"We have a lot of ground to cover yet, and we have to work hard to avoid Death Valley and get a good playoff position and home ice," Burke, whose Canucks are off to a 6-4-2-1 start and lead the Northwest Division, told the Arizona Republic.
