Messier's house survives hurricane FloydVANCOUVER (CP) -- Canucks centre Mark Messier braced for the worst with hurricane Floyd bearing down on his family's million-dollar compound in Hilton Head, S.C., on Wednesday.
But Messier was breathing easier Thursday when he learned the brunt of the storm wreaked havoc elsewhere.
"Some trees are down and there's a little flooding but most of it (damage) was up north," Messier told the Vancouver Province. "We dodged a bullet. We had 50-mile-per-hour winds with rain but nothing too dramatic."
