    Blues blow out Canucks

  • Summary

VANCOUVER (CP) -- Michal Handzus and Mike Eastwood scored two goals each as the St. Louis Blues beat the Vancouver Canucks 6-1 Sunday night.

Pavol Demitra and Pierre Turgeon each added a goal and an assist for the Blues (9-5-0), who are 10-0 against Vancouver since Joel Quenneville took over coaching duties on Jan. 7, 1997.

St. Louis goaltender Jamie McLennan made 17 saves to remain undefeated at 4-0-0.

McLennan had his shutout bid spoiled at 8:25 of the third period when Alexander Mogilny wristed a shot over McLellan's shoulder.

Canucks goalie Corey Schwab, who was 2-0-0 since being acquired two weeks ago, gave up five goals on 14 shots in suffering his first loss of the season. Schwab was replaced by rookie Alfie Michaud early in the third period after surrendering two goals in a 24-second span.

Vancouver had a chance to improve to five games over .500 for the first time since 1993, but instead dropped to 8-5-2-1.

St. Louis outshot the Canucks 26-18.

Notes: Ed Jovanovski's assist on the lone Vancouver goal was his 100th NHL point. ... The Blues are 7-0 against Canadian teams this season, having beaten Edmonton three times, Calgary twice, and Vancouver and Toronto once each.
