In particular, they are considering whether the act would give U.S. authorities access to information on B.C. residents held by U.S.-linked service providers. U.S. President George W. Bush signed the Patriot Act into force in October 2001 in response to the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. The act has been criticized for its potential to compromise the privacy of sensitive records, including personal health records of Americans. Several sections of this act may have implications for the protection of the private information of Canadians.
