OTTAWA -- Canada's diamond industry will lose a staggering $180 million to fraud and theft each year if organized crime succeeds in infiltrating the lucrative business, warns an internal RCMP report. In turn, the federal government would be robbed of $25 million in annual royalties on revenues siphoned off by criminal syndicates, says the stark assessment obtained under the Access to Information Act.
