MOSCOW -- Detroit Red Wings prospect Igor Grigorenko remained in serious condition yesterday, five days after he was involved in a serious car accident, the ITAR-Tass news agency reported.
The 20-year-old forward, the Red Wings' second-round draft pick in 2001, was on a respirator in the hospital in Togliatti where he underwent surgery for a fractured left tibia and hip, the report said.
Even though his high temperature and blood pressure have been lowered, "the condition of Grigorenko is very worrisome, the prognosis remains unfavourable," ITAR-Tass quoted the head of the hospital's intensive care unit, whom it did not name.
Meanwhile, the player's agent said Grigorenko has developed an infection in his lung.
Mark Lapush said in yesterday's Detroit Free Press that Grigorenko was under heavy medication and was in "critical but stable" condition.
"He hurt himself very badly," Lapush said. "But everything is fixable."
