REGINA -- After yet another putrid performance yesterday, Hamilton Tiger-Cats coach Ron Lancaster said he has run out of answers for his team. Hamilton lost its sixth straight game to start the CFL season as Saskatchewan's Chris Szarka ran for two touchdowns in the Roughriders' 42-9 victory.
"I really don't have any answers," Lancaster said. "That's just as poor a six-game performance as I've seen in a long time and remember, I went through an 0-12 series (as Saskatchewan's head coach in 1979). We don't seem to know what we're doing on the field and that's the coach's fault. Evidently we're not good enough. I'm responsible."
Kenton Keith ran for 88 yards in his pro debut as the Roughriders amassed 227 yards rushing against the weary Ticats, almost twice Hamilton's total offence of 117 yards. Hamilton is averaging only 178 yards total offence a game while every other CFL team is well over 300.
Hamilton, playing its third game in 10 days, fell to 0-6, the second-worst start in franchise history. The 1991 Tiger-Cats began the season 0-8 en route to a 3-15 record.
Keith scored on a 22-yard touchdown run in Saskatchewan's 22-point second quarter, bouncing off linebacker Chris Baynes' head-on hit at the 15-yard line.
"I'm not scared, I'll go head-up," said Keith, a trim 190-pounder who sat out the fourth quarter with a tight hamstring. "Most people think that because I'm small I'll try to shake them, but to me, taking them on just puts them on their heels.
