KARLY PINDER Age: 17

Home course: Ironwood Golf Club in Exeter.

School: South Huron District high school in Exeter, where she lives. A Grade 12 grad, she is returning for more courses in September. Karly was the most valuable player on her school's field hockey, tennis and golf teams. She also plays soccer and hockey.

Highland connection: She works part-time in the pro shop and receives lessons from head pro Mike Silver. Silver has been teaching Pinder for two years since receiving a phone call from her father Ken. "She's wonderful kid, a great kid. She's had a terrific summer. Her game gets better and better. She's got good work ethics. If she keeps going in that direction, she's got a nice future." She is competing in the Highland junior amateur on Monday.

Recent achievements: She placed third in last week's BMO Future Links event at Oxford Golf and Country Club in Woodstock, shooting 76-76-81. Earlier this month, she finished fourth in the Ontario junior at the Ainsdale Golf Club in Kincardine to win a spot on the Ontario team. She shot 76-77-82 at the Ontario junior. The team plays matches against other provincial teams Aug. 5-6-7 at the Canadian junior championship in Quebec City.
