Affleck's life as a dog

Anthony Carr & Tony Brenna, Special to the Free Press   2003-05-11 03:10:11

Law-Kidman rumours catching fire

Despite protestations to the contrary, rumours are intensifying that married British actor Jude Law and Aussie superstar Nicole Kidman remain in love since filming Cold Mountain together.

Talk of their affair grew louder when Jude sneaked off to New York for a second secret meeting with Nicole -- the first being in London at a friend's house three months ago. In the latest bizarre charade to avoid reporters, crafty Jude left a decoy, who's almost his double, at his London home while he jetted to New York to be with Nicole. She's been trying to throw snoops off the scent by dating bad-boy rapper Q-Tip. Meanwhile, Jude's estranged wife, Sadie Frost, has given up hope of reconciliation, even changing the locks on the mansion where she and their kids live.

PREDICTION: Jude and Nicole will finally come out of the closet, admitting they're having an affair. Marriage is likely.

Mr. Bean survives real catastrophe

Mr. Bean star Rowan Atkinson, 48, should have listened to the inner voice he says was telling him not to race his Aston Martin in an owners' club meeting. "Something told me it was going to go horribly wrong," he says. "I crashed at 100 m.p.h. and was extremely lucky to walk away; the $120,000 car was a writeoff." In another auto-related incident, Ally McBeal star Calista Flockhart was badly shaken in a Los Angeles accident when her Jaguar was rear-ended.

PREDICTION: It's the first of two serious crashes for Atkinson. The second comes on a motorway just outside London, when he breaks both legs.

Leo afraid he'll be 'caught' this time

Leonardo DiCaprio, star of Catch Me If You Can, is a nervous wreck about finally being hauled into court to face a $45-million US lawsuit stemming from a street brawl over actor Elizabeth Berkley. Leo allegedly ordered his "posse" to beat up Elizabeth's then boyfriend, actor Roger Wilson, outside a New York club during an ugly 1998 incident. Leo wanted to date Elizabeth, but she turned him down, saying she was in love with Roger, who now claims he was severely injured in the attack.

PREDICTION: This lawsuit will drag on, costing Leo millions. He stops running with his so-called posse.

Sutherland saves co-worker

Kiefer Sutherland saved the life of his 24 co-star, sexy Reiko Aylesworth, by rushing her to hospital after a fall in which she suffered head injuries. She plays agent Michelle Dessler in the hit drama.

PREDICTION: Kiefer's movie career limps along, but a second TV series brings him two Emmy Awards.

Seymour sees Remarkable Changes

Dr Quinn: Medicine Woman star Jane Seymour has survived three life-altering brushes with death, a chilling out-of-body experience and a "visit" from her dead father, according to her new book, Remarkable Changes. She says, over the years, death nearly resulted from a botched injection, which sent her into shock, tropical fever and the dangerous delivery of her twins. Her father came to her during the tropical incident, telling "me to hang on, the fever will soon break."

PREDICTION: There won't be any more brushes with death. I see Jane making it into her '90s.

Brooke Shields' dad dies

Brooke Shields is mourning the death of her beloved father, Frank Shields, 61. She's particularly saddened he didn't live to see the baby she's carrying. Brooke, 37, had made dad a big part of her life as he battled cancer. He was thrilled when she became pregnant after receiving fertility treatment.

PREDICTION: Brooke will now grow closer to her mother, Teri; after years of fighting, the baby brings reconciliation.

Ben growls at she who must be obeyed

Ben Affleck is another one in revolt, warning fiancee Jennifer Lopez on the eve of their wedding to "stop treating me like a dog." Jennifer has cut Ben off from friends, dressed him in designer clothes and even started taking a hand in managing his movie career. That was until he exploded, telling her if she didn't back off, there would be no wedding. What Ben hated most was J.Lo's insistence that he join her for daily 4:45 a.m. exercise sessions with her trainer, Gunnar Peterson. Ben, who says he's most amorous in the mornings, claimed the early morning workouts were killing his sex drive -- and she hastily agreed to a new schedule.

PREDICTION: This marriage isn't going to work and Ben already knows it in his heart. But he's too committed to back out.
