WASHINGTON -- Stamp collectors have long thought of their hobby as miniature art collections. Now the U.S. post office is offering the public the chance to collect its art in full size.
Reproductions of 300 pieces of art used on stamps will be offered. Purchases can be made at www.postalartgallery.com and prices vary.
For example, a print of a green-throated carib from the tropical birds stamp series sells for $89.95 to $215.95, depending on size, frame and matting. All prices are in U.S. funds.
A framed print of an apple from the fruit stamp booklet is $53.96 to $107.95; Peter Max's Preserve the Environment artwork sells for $67.45 to $467.96, and a Norman Rockwell print of a letter carrier walking his route sells for $53.96 to $107.95, depending on size and framing.
