THE PLOT: In 1937, as America languishes in the grip of the Great Depression, the Mercury Theatre attempts to stage a controversial, pro-union musical titled The Cradle Will Rock. The New York City company, headed by Orson Welles and John Houseman, confronts internal strife, censorship and government interference that threaten to kill the production.
