THE PLAYS: Risk Everything and The End of Civilization, by George F. Walker; Ausable Theatre productions directed by Jeff Culbert; featuring Rachel Holden-Jones, Linda Ham, Jayson McDonald, Caitlin Murphy, Jeff Culbert, Dean Hall, Serge Saika-Voivod, Claire Porte
THE PLOTS: Both plays are from the Suburban Motel series, six Walker scripts set in a single motel room. In Risk Everything, the sequel to Problem Child, Denise and R.J. deal with the death of Denise's mother, a sexy, truth-bending gambler with a lust for life. The room's occupants in The End of Civilization are a middle-class couple who, as recent victims of corporate down-sizing, are desperately seeking employment in a new town while haunted by the fear they may lose everything.
QUOTE: "I think the Suburban Motel series contains some of the best Canadian plays ever produced. It's funny and exciting and compassionate theatre." -- Director Jeff Culbert
