OHL announces disciplinary action
GAME OF JANUARY 11TH, 2006 - PETERBOROUGH AT BELLEVILLE
The Ontario Hockey League today announced the results of its review of
an incident which occurred in the game played in Belleville, Ontario on
the 11th of January, 2006 between the Bulls and the visiting
Peterborough Petes Hockey Club involving player Steve Downie of the
Peterborough Petes Hockey Club.
The incident in question involved player Steve Downie physically
interacting with player Andrew Gibbons of the Belleville Bulls Hockey
Club.
In making the announcement as the result of the review, Commissioner
David Branch stated that "the League is of the opinion that player
Downie's actions were most inappropriate and we must all work to
eliminate these type of bullying tactics from our game".
"It is the position of the Ontario Hockey League that player Steve
Downie of the Peterborough Petes Hockey Club be suspended for five (5)
games effective immediately".
