OHL announces Academic Players of the Month
The Ontario Hockey League today announced the OHL Academic Players of the Month for December.
West Division - The OHL Academic Player of the Month for December in the West Division is centreman Jared Gomes of the Sarnia Sting. The 17 year old from Brampton, Ontario is a Grade 12 student at Northern Collegiate in Sarnia, Ontario.
Midwest Division - The OHL Academic Player of the Month for December in the Midwest Division is Matt Pepe of the Kitchener Rangers. Pepe, 18, is a Grade 12 student at Eastwood Collegiate Institute in Kitchener, Ontario.
Central Division - The OHL Academic Player of the Month for December in the Central Division is Andrew Merrett of the Mississauga IceDogs. Merrett, a 16 year old right winger with the IceDogs, is currently a Grade 10 student at Philip Pocock Secondary School in Mississauga.
East Division - The OHL Academic Player of the Month for December in the East Division is Cal Clutterbuck of the Oshawa Generals. Clutterbuck, 18, a native of Welland, Ontario, is a Grade 12 student at Henry Street High School in Oshawa.
Each month, the OHL recognizes a player from each Division who is striving to reach his full potential in his educational program while playing in the Ontario Hockey League.
More than 97% of the players currently playing in the Ontario Hockey League are attending high school or post-secondary institutions. More than 400 OHL graduates are currently attending Canadian universities and colleges on scholarships from their OHL teams.
