Downie named OHL Player of the Week
Toronto - The Ontario Hockey League today announced that Steve Downie of
the Peterborough Petes is the OHL Player of the Week for the week ending
Sunday January 29, 2006 after scoring four goals and four assists for
eight points in three games.
Downie, a 18-year-old from Queensville, started the week with a hat
trick and two assists in a 7-4 win over the Oshawa Generals on January
26. and added a goal and two assists in a 9-5 win over the Erie Otters
on January 28. He was held off the score sheet in a 3-2 shootout loss to
the Brampton Battalion on January 29.
Downie, who helped Team Canada win the gold medal in the World Junior
championships earlier this month, raised his season scoring totals to 13
goals and 20 assists for 33 points in 18 games. He will represent the
Eastern Conference in the Bell OHL All-Star Classic on Wednesday in
Belleville.
