OHL announces Academic Players of the Month
The Ontario Hockey League today announced the OHL Academic Players of the Month for February.
West Division - The OHL Academic Player of the Month for February in the West Division is centreman Mickey Renaud of the Windsor Spitfires Hockey Club. Renaud, 17, a native of Tecumseh, Ontario, is a Grade 12 student at St. Anne's High School in Windsor.
Midwest Division - The OHL Academic Player of the Month for February in the Midwest Division is goaltender Neil Conway of the Owen Sound Attack Hockey Club. Conway, 18, a native of Concord, Ohio, is a Grade 12 student at West Hill Secondary School in Owen Sound.
Central Division - The OHL Academic Player of the Month for February in the Central Division is left winger Adam Zamec of the Toronto St. Michael's Majors Hockey Club. Zamec, 16, a second round selection of the Toronto St. Michael's Majors in the 2005 OHL Priority Selection is a Grade 11 student at Central Technical School in Toronto.
East Division - The OHL Academic Player of the Month for February in the East Division is defenseman Burke MacDonald of the Peterborough Petes Hockey Club. MacDonald, 18, a native of Summerstown, Ontario, is a Grade 12 student a Thomas A. Stewart Secondary School in Peterborough.
Each month, the OHL recognizes a player from each Division who is striving to reach his full potential in his educational program while playing in the Ontario Hockey League.
More than 97% of the players currently playing in the Ontario Hockey League are attending high school or post-secondary institutions. For the 2005-06 playing season, 239 OHL graduates are currently attending Canadian universities on scholarships from their OHL teams.
