OHL adds new supervisor of officials

TORONTO - Ted Baker, OHL Director of Hockey Operations and Referee-in-Chief, today announced the addition of Ray Scapinello to the League's team of officiating supervisors.

Scapinello, 58, a native of Guelph, Ontario, retired following the 2003-04 playing season after spending 33 seasons as a National Hockey League linesman. He worked 2,500 regular season and 426 playoff games in a stellar career that included 20 Stanley Cup final appearances and three NHL All-Star Games.

"The League is most pleased to have someone of the calibre of Ray Scapinello join our Supervisory Team", stated Baker. "We are always striving to provide our officials with the best mentoring possible and Ray's experience will certainly enhance the level of coaching for our referees and linesmen."

Scapinello worked his first NHL game on October 17, 1971 and also worked various Canada Cups, the World Cup of Hockey in 1996 and the Olympic Games in Nagano, Japan in 1998.

He becomes the eighth supervisor on staff headed by Director of Supervisors Ken Bodendistel. The other supervisors include Jim Lever, David Lynch, Ken Miller, Bill Prisniak, Sam Sisco and Rick Zbucki.
