Toronto - The Ontario Hockey League announced today that Brampton Battalion goaltender Daren Machesney is the OHL Player of the Week.
Machesney, 18, picked up a pair of shutout victories last week over two Eastern Conference rivals. Friday, Machesney stopped all 32 shots he faced to help the Battalion defeat the Sudbury Wolves by a score of 4-0. On Sunday, Machesney backstopped the Battalion to 3-0 win over the defending Eastern Conference champions, the Ottawa 67's. Machesney picked up 34 saves in this game and put on a show for the hometown crowd. Machesney was named the First Star in each of these games.
