Four Brazilians, three Germans and Turks named to World Cup all-star team
YOKOHAMA, Japan (CP) - Brazil's three R's - Ronaldo, Ronaldinho and Rivaldo - plus Roberto Carlos were named to the World Cup all-star team, along with three German and Turkish players.
Standout German goalie Oliver Kahn was joined by midfielder Michael Ballack and striker Miroslav Klose, who has scored five goals and is among the top candidates for the Golden Boot award. Ronaldo leads all scorers with six goals.
Turkey's Rustu Recber got the nod as the second goalie, and defender Alpay Ozalan and striker Hasan Sas completed the Turkish trio.
Turkey meets South Korea in the third-place match in Daegu on Saturday. The first-ever Asian semifinalist had defender Hong Myung-bo and midfielder Yoo Sang-chul on the MasterCard all-star team.
The other members on the squad were defenders Sol Campbell of England and Fernando Hierro of Spain, American midfielder Claudio Reyna and Senegalese striker El Hadji Diouf.
A 10-member FIFA panel of experts headed by Slovak coach Jozef Venglos, who led the former Czechoslovakia to the quarter-finals at the 1990 finals in Italy, picked the tournament standouts.
The panel included Canadian national team coach Holger Osieck.
