Miss Jackie on dating and reality
SCOTT ZERR - Edmonton Sun
There are some serious topics that one can touch on when having a chat with the blond bombshell, Miss Jackie. Those subjects would include the role of women in World Wrestling Entertainment (strictly eye candy or real athletes), her own studies in broadcast journalism and where they might take her and the strains that the weekly travelling carnival puts on one's personal well-being.
But for starters, there's a fun little matter to discuss with the gorgeous diva, who sparkled alongside her Smackdown! cohorts last night at the Shaw Conference Centre. See, Miss Jackie (Jackie Gayda) has her own website (PlanetJackie.com) and one of the sections worth checking out is the "Application to date Miss Jackie."
Fingers on the keyboard yet?
"It's always fun to read that. There's been some interesting comments," laughed Miss Jackie from her home in suburban Dallas earlier this week.
She's left a comment from time to time on some of the more comical bids, but never taken up any offer - and it's doubtful she ever will.
On to more pressing matters. Gayda, a native of Cleveland and former All-Ohio track sensation, came up to the WWE, relatively speaking, the easy way. After an unsuccessful bid to get on the first rendition of Tough Enough - the wrestling monopoly's reality show - Gayda qualified for Season 2 in 2002 and, despite an injury in the late going, won a guaranteed contract.
While the Tough Enough contestants received valuable tips from a number of veteran grapplers, many of the wrestlers were perturbed by the show's premise.
Here were a bunch of hot bodies living in a mansion, travelling to glamourous spots on training vacations and partying like rock stars at night. The grumbles came from the wrestlers who'd come up the hard way - trekking from show to show in the back of a cargo van in the dead of winter, stuffed into grubby hotel rooms and eating tuna right from the can.
"We were spoiled quite a bit," admitted the five-foot-seven Gayda, who will turn 24 this November. "But we did have intense training from 9 to 3 Monday through Friday and then boot camp every day on the beach. We definitely took a lot of bumps, and that helped get us ready for wrestling but I never had to learn how to cook hotdogs from heat coming off a muffler.
"I think I found this route for a reason. I'm glad I got to go to Tough Enough, but it would have been cool to come up the other way."
After a stint with the WWE's development group, Gayda has been a regular presence on television for nearly a year - most recently working as the valet for Charlie Haas and Rico. She's had quite an impact, at times; her physicality has been groomed to where she can ably battle in the ring, but her ample assets have teased and titilated fans to the point of where she's become one of the hottest babes in the business.
Gayda has strutted her stuff in bra and panty matches, evening-wear rumbles and bikini brawls, but there's a limit to her disrobing.
"The opportunity has presented itself and I was the one who brought the "puppies" back before Janet Jackson, but I don't know if that's something for me," commented Gayda on the possibility of doing a layout for Playboy, following in the footsteps of wrestling beauties Torrie Wilson, Sable and Chyna.
"I know what my character is and what I'm there to do. If part of that is being a sex symbol, I know I'm here to play that role. If I'm ever uncomfortable with anything, there's plenty of people around to listen with their eyes open."
If her personal limits are tight pants with torn backsides and low-cut tops, that'll have to suffice. It's got Gayda this far and she's got plans for much more.
"If anything, it's helped me open up socially a bit. I was never a closed shell, but it's helped me be out in the public eye. When you're living out of a suitcase, it's great to be able to relax and just be yourself. I really want to give as much as I can to this company for as long as I can. I'm not using this as a springboard to anything else because I love the entertainment part of this job."
