Friday, August 17, 2001 EBE = Extra-Bases EmanueleThe Team Ontario 17s centre fielder again had an extra-base hit in the bottom of the seventh to key a final-inning, rally at the Perfect Game Northeast Showcase. In the opener, Emanuele hit a solo homer into the left field bullpen to break up a scoreless tie and give Team Ontario an opening game win over Perfect Game Orange. In game two, with Team Ontario trailing 4-1 in the bottom of the seventh, Emanuele hit a booming triple off the 400-foot sign in centre field to drive in a run and later scored as Ontario rallied for four runs and a 5-4 victory. Not bad pop with a wood bat and what better time to strut his stuff than in front of a host of college recruiters? Emanuele led off the game with a double, stole third and scored on a ground ball by first baseman Eric Wolfe (Willowdale). Ontario remained scoreless until the bottom of the seventh started when infielder Tyler Burnell (Mississauga North) reached on error and one out later he scored on Emanuele's triple. Second baseman Adam Vella (Burlington) singled home Emanuele to make it a one-run game. Wolfe then doubled home Vella evening the score and then third baseman Jason Gotwalt (Mississauga North) doubled home Wolfe with the winning run. The other Ontario hits went to outfielder Adam Pernasilici (Tecumseh), third baseman Michael Cart (King City) and Burnell. Right-hander Mike Eichstedt (Georgetown) started for Team Ontario and allowed a solo homer in the first, but pitched a scoreless second. Right- hander Ian Wight (Ajax) was tagged for two runs in the third, one unearned. Mark Tourangeau (Oakville) had a scoreless outing, as did right-hander Nolan Trotman (East York) who wound up with the win when Team Ontario rallied. Players from the Perfect Game Red team are composed of the best from North Carolina, Pennsylvannia, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Venezuela.
