A respectable effort by New Brunswick

CORNER BROOK, Nfld. - Twenty-one events, 15 days, 14 medals. That's the final tally for Team New Brunswick at the Canada Winter Games. Not its best effort, surely, but still respectable when facing the likes of perennial powerhouses Ontario, Quebec and B.C. event after event. Our two silver and 12 bronze put us in ninth place, with only Prince Edward Island and the two territories faring worse.

Rock bids Games rocking goodbye

CORNER BROOK, Nfld. -- Newfoundlanders said goodbye to athletes and spectators from across the country yesterday the same way they welcomed them two weeks ago -- with music and dancing and pure exuberance.
And if it was possible, the closing ceremonies were more fun than the opening. A kitchen party for more than 5,000 people was held on the floor of the Canada Games Centre and the house rocked.

Torch passed to London

CORNER BROOK, Nfld. -- Ontario athletes walked away from the Canada Winter Games on Saturday draped in the coveted Canada Games Flag -- the reward for the best overall performance after two weeks of competition.
But the other Team Ontario -- the one gearing up to host the 2001 Canada Summer Games in London -- leaves Newfoundland knowing they have a tough act to follow.
