Russian speedskater banned for lifeBERLIN (AP) -- Russian speedskater Svetlana Fedotkina, the Olympic 1,500-metre silver medalist, has been banned for life for two doping offences.
The vice president of the International Skating Union, Gerd Zimmermann of Germany, said Sunday an appeal by the Russian federation had been rejected.
Fedotkina already had been banned for two years for testing positive for anabolic steroids. That ban expired Jan. 6.
While the ban was still in force, in November, Fedotkina refused to undergo a drug test during training in Calgary, saying she was there on a private visit. ISU said this amounted to a second drug offense, mandating a lifetime ban.
