Japanese coach resignsTOKYO (AP) -- A coach for Japan's Winter Olympic men's speedskating team resigned after five members of a university hockey team under his supervision were arrested on rape charges.
The five students, all members of the Nippon Sport Science University's ice hockey team, were arrested last July after an attack on a female office worker, police said today.
Police would not say why they had kept the arrests quiet until now.
Coach Kunio Tanaka, a professor who supervised the team as head of the school's skating department, resigned his position with the Olympic men's speedskating team on Wednesday.
Tanaka is one of 13 coaches for the Olympics team.
Police on Tuesday arrested five members of Tokyo's Teikyo University rugby club on charges of raping a 19-year-old female office worker in November.
