    Bos of Netherlands wins 500 meter speedskating World Cup

     BASELGA DI PINE, Italy (AP) -- Jan Bos of the Netherlands won the 500 meters at the World Cup speedskating meet Tuesday, edging teammate Erben Wennemars.
     Bos finished in 36.65 seconds, four one-hundredths of a second ahead of Wennemars. Russia's Sergei Klevchenya was third in 36.73.
     Canadian Jeremy Wotherspoon, who is the World Cup overall leader in the 500 and 1,000 meters, dominated the 1,000-meter race, finishing at 1 minute, 12.17 seconds, ahead of Toshiyuki Kuroiwa of Japan (1:12.84). Another Dutchman, Jeroen Straathof, came in third at 1:13.31.
     For the women, Catriona Le May Doan remained atop the World Cup standings at both distances. The Canadian won the 500 in 38.72 seconds, finishing ahead of Sabine Volker of Germany (39.28) and Susan Auch of Canada (39.29).
     Doan finished third in the 1,000, skating the distance in 1:18.68. She came in behind Volker (1:17.90), who was 0.16 seconds off of fellow German Franziska Schenk.
