    Deburghgraeve won't be in Sydney

BRUSSELS (AP) -- Olympic champion Fred Deburghgraeve of Belgium will not defend his 100-metre breaststroke title at the Sydney Games.

He has been injured and in poor form, and plans to retire.

The former world and European champion announced his decision over the weekend. He was well outside the Belgian Olympic qualification limits at a local meet in Brugge.

"I don't think he will come back on his decision," coach Ronald Gaastra said Sunday.

The 26-year-old Deburghgraeve won his Olympic title and set a world record in Atlanta four years ago. He added a world title in 1998.
