EMLL PPV a hair-raising affair - Mascara Ano Dos Mil gets shaved
By JOHN F. MOLINARO -- SLAM! Wrestling
Mascara Ano Dos Mil came out on the losing end of a four-way cage match last night as part of the main event of Empresa Mexicana de
Lucha Libre's (EMLL) "Entre Torre Infernal" pay-per-view show from Mexico City's historic Arena Mexico.
Dos Mil squared off against Villano III, Pierroth Jr and Perro Aguayo in the cage match where the last two men remaining would then
have to score a pinfall or submission to secure the win. The match saw rudos Apolo Dantes, Cien Caras and Mascara Universo Dos Mil interfere
during the match. After Aguayo and Pierroth escaped, it came down to Villano II and Dos Mil. Villano III forced Dos Mil to submit with his signature
La Cerrajera move, scoring the victory. The match was reported to be a wild affair.
As part of a pre-match stipulation, Dos Mil, as the last man remaining in the cage, had his head shaved bald. It was the first time the
veteran ever lost a "hair match" during his long career. He had previously wrestled under a mask, before losing it to Perro Aguayo in a hair vs mask
match at AAA's first TripleMania show at Mexico City's Plaza del Toros bullring in April on 1993.
In other match from the Mexican pay-per-view, new CMLL World tag team champions were crowned as Rey Bucanero and Ultimo
Guerrero defeated Mr Niebla and Villano IV, subbing for an injured Emilio Charles Jr. who was originally scheduled for this match. The titles had
been vacant ever since EMLL stripped the previous champions, Negro Casas and El Hijo del Santo, of the titles earlier this year.
In a special "Torneo Cibernetico " match, Rencor Latino defeated El Hijo Del Gladiador in the finals, forcing the veteran to unmask. The
match began as a 12-man battle royale where the first six men eliminated would then team up in an elimination tag match against the remaining six
men. The last two men would then square off and the loser would have to unmask.
The sides ended up as Blue Panther, Black Warrior, Mascara Magica, Hijo Del Gladiador, Rencor Latino and Olimpico vs Pantera, Violencia,
Dr. O'Borman, Astro Rey Jr. and Solar I.
Order of elimination from the tag match was Dr. O'Borman, Olimpico, Safari, Blue Panther, Black Warrior, Violencia, Pantera, Solar I, Astro
Rey Jr and Mascara Magica.
The match came down to Latino and Gladiador. With the support of a rapid crowd behind him, Latino upended Gladiador, scoring the win
and saving his masked identity. This was reported to have been the best match of the night.
Hijo Del Gladiador unmasked as Arturo Ramirez, age 49. He had been wrestling under that masked gimmick for the past 17 years.
In other matches from the show: Negro Casas, Brazo De Plata and Lizmark Jr. defeated Satanico, Dr. Wagner Jr. and Bestia Salvaje and
Cicloncito Ramirez, Bracito De Oro and Ultimo Dragoncio beat Fire, El Fierito and Pierrotito.
