Early goal gives Montreal over Toronto

MONTREAL (CP) -- Forward Ali Ngon scored in the 17th minute and the Montreal Impact went on to beat the Toronto Lynx 1-0 in A-League soccer action Sunday.

The Impact's leading scorer picked up a pass from midfielder Mauro Biello and slipped the ball past goalkeeper Theo Zagar from 10 metres for his sixth goal of the season.

Toronto midfielder Nikki Vignjevic missed a penalty kick in the 25th minute when goalkeeper Jim Larkin dove to his left and tipped the ball wide of the post.

Larkin also made a save on a free kick by Vignjevic in the 34th minute.

The Lynx played shorthanded in the second half after forward Francisco Dos Santos earned his second yellow card in the 54th minute and team captain Marco Reda collected his second yellow in the 84th. Two yellow cards in the same game bring automatic ejection.

The victory ran Montreal's home winning streak to five games.
